Rob is Director of Occupational & Aviation Medicine at the University of Otago Wellington, New Zealand, and Director of RG Medical Consultancy Services Ltd. His ongoing consultancies include the medical investigation of transportation accidents, petrochemical industry occupational health, air traffic controller health, and vocational rehabilitation programmes. He is an Associate Professor at the School of Public Health, University of Washington, Seattle. Rob was previously Chief Medical Officer at the NZ Ministry of Transport, Health Services Planning Manager for a Regional Health Authority, and Senior Medical Adviser/Director of the National Heath Committee. He has previously worked with Harvard Medical School Dubai Center, and examines at the UAE University in Al Ain. He also is employed on projects and consultancy for a range of workers’ compensation agencies and civil aviation authorities worldwide.

Rob’s expertise is widely recognized – he is a Fellow of the Faculties or Colleges of Occupational & Environmental Medicine in England, Ireland, USA, and Australasia, and a member of the Occupational & Environmental Medicine Association of Canada. He is also a Fellow of the Australasian College of Aerospace Medicine, Aerospace Medical Association, Academy of Aviation & Space Medicine, and the Australasian College of Public Health Medicine.

Rob’s interests notably include return to work, aircraft cabin health and safety, workers compensation, air traffic control, aviation safety, occupational health in the airline and petrochemical industries, accident investigation and prevention, regulation of medical standard and certification for flight crew, adult learning, health policy, planning and governance, blood borne pathogens, pilot incapacitation, aviation physiology, health of flight attendants, post-traumatic stress disorder and medical education.
